Dental Implants

At Mairs Family Dentistry we have the capability to replace missing teeth through the use of dental implants. When a patient with good bone density and over all good health loses a tooth, we are able to replace the root of that tooth with a dental implant. Once that implant heals and fully integrates into the patient’s body, we will be able to place a tooth on the dental implant.

Dental implants can be a great solution to restore a missing tooth or several teeth. Dental implants are also a fantastic way to anchor complete or partial dentures. We will coordinate the entire implant process from the implant placement surgery to the routine maintenance that is required following the implant restoration.

Anti-Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea Appliances

Snoring occurs when tissues of the back of the mouth or throat partially closed off the airway. This partial closure causes turbulent air flow to the lungs and it is that turbulent air flow that creates vibrations and the sounds of snoring. When the tissues of the mouth and throat completely close off the airway a person can stop breathing for periods longer than 10 seconds. This situation is called obstructive sleep apnea.

Obstructive sleep apnea is a debilitating condition that has been called the most under diagnosed major medical condition in our country today and a proper diagnosis can only be made through a sleep study.

The most effective treatment for obstructive sleep apnea is a Continuous Positive Air Pressure appliance (CPAP).  Unfortunately, a CPAP machine is noisy, requires a power source, and is very uncomfortable.  When a patient can’t tolerate a CPAP or when a patient is in a situation where there is no reliable power source (i.e. Camping), We can fabricate a dental appliance that can help improve snoring or obstructive sleep apnea.  This dental device is like wearing two mouth guards that will gently move your lower jaw forward.  By moving the jaw forward, the device will lift the tissues off the airway creating smooth airflow.

He does this through the use of veneers, porcelain restorations, ceramic restorations, bonded composites, cosmetic re-contouring, and whitening procedures

Preventive Dentistry

We are true believers of the saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Our team will work with you to keep you and your mouth happy and healthy. Infants: Within the first year we recommend bringing your baby with you to your dental appointment.

We offer an infant oral examination that assesses the health of your baby’s mouth and helps you develop a daily program of good oral hygiene. Children: Children’s teeth need regular dental cleaning and examination.

We typically recommend that children visit their dentist every 6 months. We also recommend fluoride treatments and sealants as preventive measures. Adults and Seniors: Regular dental cleaning and examination is important to the health of your teeth and gums, and to your overall health. Your dentist will recommend the appropriate frequency of visits based on your needs. Most patients visit their dentist twice a year.

Endodontic Treatment

Over the years, “root canals” have gained the reputation of being a long and painful procedure. However, with advent of new technologies and medicines, that is not always the case. Often times we have the ability to complete the root canal procedure in one or two appointments with little or no discomfort. A root canal procedure is required when the nerve of the tooth is damaged, traumatized, or infected. If the tooth is restorable, We will removed the damaged or infected nerve and replace it with a substance that will seal the canals of the root system, which will prevent future infections.

Oral Surgery

Unfortunately, sometimes a tooth cracks or decays to the point that the tooth non-restorable. When a tooth cannot be saved, our doctors have the ability to remove the tooth as well as provide comfort should there be any post-surgical complications. Because of our extensive training, we rarely need to refer our patients to an oral surgeon for extractions. Thereby allowing our patients to endure a sometimes frightening procedure with a staff and dentist that they know and trust.

When we anticipate that a tooth will be too difficult for us to extract, we will refer our patients to only the most qualified Oral Surgeons that we have hand selected. We can also extract teeth that need to be removed in preparation for orthodontics or due to impactions..

Periodontal Disease

After periods of neglect (lack of brushing and/or flossing) plaque on your teeth can become mineralized and hard. This mineralized and hard substance, know as Tarter or Calculus, and can only be removed by a highly trained Hygienist. When Tarter builds below the gum line it can cause bone loss, pocketing, or an infection sometimes leading to tooth mobility or extraction.

Periodontal Maintenance

Most times, after the tarter is removed, it is best for the patient to continue to see a highly trained hygienist 2-4 times a year to keep the tarter from coming back. If the patients oral hygiene does not improve, this periodontal maintenance can be a lifelong commitment.storation.

Periodontal Surgery

When a periodontal pocket grows to a certain height or is not responsive to initial cleaning, not even the most stilled hygienist adequately remove all the tarter or inhibit bone distruction. In this situation, a dentist or periodontal specialist will do the cleaning by surgically moving the gums in order to to expose the root surfaces.

Restorative Dentistry

Most procedures in a dental office that are not preventative or cosmetic are considered restorative. We pride ourselves on the fact we will stop at nothing to ensure that the work we do is not only necessary but it is done to the highest quality possible.

Invisalign is a nearly invisable alternative to conventional braces. The invisalign system is not indicated for all patients or all types of tooth movement. Invisalign is ideal when minor orthodontic movement is desired and only a dentist or orthodontist can tell when Invisalign is appropriate.

There are many ways to brighten your smile and restore your youthful and vibrant appearance. Our doctors and staff a Mairs Family Dentistry will provide a custom smile analysis in order to match your desired outcome with one of our many whitening options.

Complete and Partial Dentures

Dentures replace missing natural teeth. They provide chewing function, improved speech and support for the facial muscles. Complete dentures can replace all of the teeth. Partial dentures replace some of the teeth. A conventional denture can be placed after removal of the patient’s teeth and several weeks of healing. An immediate denture can be placed immediately after the teeth are removed.

This allows the patient to go home with teeth in place. Immediate dentures normally require reline within a few months of placement. After denture placement there is always an adjustment period. Dentures are not “the same” as natural teeth. Patients must learn how chew, speak, and care for their dentures. This may take several weeks or months to master. Most patients adapt quickly, and the dentures function well.
